The Islamic
Society of North America and the Fiqh Council of North America announced
that Eid al-Fitr would be on Saturday, October 13, 2007. The horizon of
South Florida was clear on the night of October 11, and there were no
moon sighting reports by anyone in the community as far as Madinah
Foundation is aware.
Moon sighting
experts, such as Khalid Shaukat of Moonsighting.com, said it would be
impossible to sight the moon almost anywhere in the world on Thursday
night, thus making Saturday, October 13, the first day of Shawwal.
Despite such
scientific fact, Saudi Arabia once again announced the day of Eid in
contradiction of all astronomical evidence. North America, and South
Florida also, was thrown into chaos once again. Despite Saudi's
announcement, the majority of masajid in South Florida will be
celebrating Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, October 13.
